Vinland Saga aired in July of 2019 and was produced by Studio Wit. It was adapted from its manga counterpart created by Makato Yukimura. The story follows Thorfinn, a young boy seeking revenge on the man who killed his father Askeladd. Joining his crew, he takes it upon himself to grow stronger to one day duel Askeladd and avenge his father’s death.
This show is phenomenally well made, I always find Studio Wit creates absolute bangers. I have been recommended this show by a bunch of people being told it’s a phenomenal masterpiece and for all intents and purposes I see it. I had to watch four episodes before the main plot point even began for the story. It is such a breath of fresh air to see a show that can tell an entire story. And suddenly switch it up to tell the full story.
Vinland Saga and the Switch From From

There are very few anime these days that do this and they’re always my favorite. You think you’re being told the full story only for the switch up to happen after the first three episodes. Hence why I had to watch four to understand why the shows plot synopsis was the way it was. I genuinely think that Thorfinn’s father is an absolute unit of a character and now to see Thorfinn grow to surpass the beast his father was going to be an insane journey.
Obviously I haven’t gotten to that point but my main focus for this review is to talk about self-sacrifice and the responsibility to others that one has. Thorfinn’s father had to sacrifice his life to save both his crew, his son, and his village back home. Every step he took towards fighting was keeping his home and community in mind. He thought of every angle and knew his death was the only option in this matter.
The Power of A Promise

He sacrifices himself because he knows with his death that his family would be safe and that no one would have to die. However, he did not foresee his sons rage and hellbent promise to avenge his father which would ultimately send him down a path of no return. It’s a terrifying idea to watch as Thorfinn promises to the face of the man that killed his father that he will be the last vision he sees.
To get that kind of rage from a six-year-old child is enough to send shivers down the crews backs. Because in his eyes they saw a beast awoken. It was indeed terrifying. Sadly, when one sacrifices themselves there are too many variables that can happen to change the outcome of their sacrifice. We cannot always see the future. We can only hope that it favours us.
Vinland Saga Potential

I believe the potential of this show lies in the way it tells its story of revenge and the brutality of war. I love this show and will definitely keep watching it. And I recommend you too give this show a watch it has a little something for everyone. And let me know what your favorite part of the show is! I’d love to read what you enjoy the most.
