Wind Breaker, The Results of Unparalleled Want

Wind Breaker

Wind Breaker: When Backing Down Isn’t An Option

Wind Breaker was developed in April of 2024 and was developed by Studio CloverWorks. Directed by Toshifumi Akai it was adapted into its anime form from the Mange of the same name created by Satoru Nii. The story follows a young transfer named Haruka Sakura. He is a skilled fighter yet a social loner transferring to Furin High School. A high school notorious for delinquency. There he finds himself joining an underdog crew named the Wind Breakers. Here he becomes accustomed to a life of school gang culture learning how to trust and believe in others making friends and breaking out of his shell.

This anime throws hands. That is the best way I can describe what this anime does best. The fight scenes are some of the best I have ever seen with moves that knocked me out in real life! Typically, when a Manga transitions into an anime a lot of concern comes around fight scenes and if they are translated well into the screen. I have seen both the manga and the anime; I can safely say I am blown away by how accurately it has been integrated. The punches hit hard, the combos are wild, and the jumpings are insane!

Wind Breaker

Very few anime these days can accurately convey what it means to be jumped. Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the best examples of this. But Wind Breaker takes all of this and says, “Hold my beer.” I watched the first fight scene three times at this point and I am in awe at just how much personality each fighter has. Some are straight menaces on the field while others are more calculated. Some use their enemy’s momentum against them while others break the momentum and bodies of their opponents.

I can’t begin to explain just how amazing this anime can be. And while there are moments that focus on interpersonal relationships between characters, I feel that it’s done so seldom. This restraint to force exposition to instead focus on fights was a genius move on the creator’s part. Sometimes in anime, all it takes to have fun is to watch a bunch of teenagers fist it out in a brawl and root for the person you like the most to win.

Wind Breaker

Another anime came out years ago that did what Wind Breaker does and it took the internet by storm. The God of Highschool. This anime was among one of the greatest and sadly no season two has been confirmed. Wind Breaker came out at just the perfect time to satiate the need for another high-octane fight anime. I will stand by my words when I say that anime is at its best when it’s just dumb fun. And Wind Breaker has that in spades. Fun characters, fun fights. And sometimes that’s all you need.
