Grandma and Grandpa Turn Young Again first aired in April of 2024 published by Studio Gekkou. It was published from its manga adaptation created by Araido, Kagiri. The story follows Shouzou Saitou and his wife, Ine, and their relationship as an old married couple. However, they wake up on day to find themselves young and youthful. With their newfound youth they find themselves continuing their life as before with a newfound strength grateful for the gift they have received.

One of the cutest anime I have ever watched in my opinion. This show reminded me of how my sister often finds elderly individuals cute because of their hunched backs and hearty laughs. This anime shows that mindset that the elderly generation possess now made into the body of a younger person. It’s a very strange experience seeing how everyone around them acts.
Typically, when a change is as drastic as this anime likes to take this whole approach to hide it from the people they love so nothing seems off. This show however doesn’t do that in the slightest. It shows all those around the couple absolutely stunned at the idea they are suddenly young again. But then takes the anime approach of everyone adjusting way too quickly so it kinda falls flat.

This show has a lot going for it. Its most striking feature is its absolute gorgeous visuals that often change in style. Fitting the cute aesthetic its going for. And this does the show a massive service. It’s very easy to watch and able to digest rather quickly. I have watched three episodes and watching the characters interact with an ever-shifting art style can show areas where you need to think. And then show areas where you can relax and watch.
And I notice how nicely the writing has been prepared for this show. The conversations can sometimes be a nothing salad in terms of content, but this show likes to keep it relevant, with throwaway lines often returning in important ways. It’s good planning and this is why I always praise Japanese Manga story writers. They’re some of the best in planning and foresight.

And believe me I love Manhwa just as much however more for the art style that writing. Some Manhwa I’ve read can fall so flat on story but look visually gorgeous and it’s kind of disappointing at times. Also, it’s like the same trope three times over. Regardless Grandma and Grandpa Turn Young Again is such a breath of fresh air away from the suffocation of action anime and fan service hell.
I adore watching anime but after years of refining my taste I find the fan service can become so drawn out and unnecessary. That’s why I find myself drawn to shows like this. Wholesome with a great message about spending time where you can before it runs out. Which I may develop a review on in its entirety.
I hope you all enjoyed this review I adore this show and really do need to find the time to finish it.
